Biography

This candidate does not have a Democratic opponent and will therefore serve as the next Representative for this district.

My name is Kevin West, and I’m committed to making your voice heard at the State Capitol.  Like you, I want to play an active role in making our community, state and country a safer, better place to raise our children, run our businesses, and forge a future filled with unlimited promise.  Together we can ensure Oklahoma remains the premier place to live, work and raise your family.

If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference for our families, our communities, and our state.  You can either click on the Contact link to email me, via Facebook at Representative Kevin West or call me at 405-514-8468.

Currently, I am Chairman of the A&B Non-Appropriated Agencies Sub-Committee.  I am also serving on the Full Appropriations & Budget, Business & Commerce, and the Transportation Committee. Previously I served as Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee and served on the Banking & Business, Judiciary and Appropriations & Budget Sub-Committee of Natural Resources and Regulatory Services.

Born in Oklahoma City, raised in South Oklahoma City, and a graduate of Douglass High School, I was taught early on the value of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance.

On an academic scholarship to Northeastern Oklahoma A & M I studied construction and business and spent the next several years working in cabinet shops before opening my own shop in Oklahoma City.  My wife and I are active members of Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore, OK and both volunteer with the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief Team.

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart Goldie for over 30 years, and we have 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren who are the joy of our lives!

Owning and working with local businesses my entire career has given me a passion for building success – I’ve literally worked hard building this state, and thanks to your vote of confidence, now I’m working hard for you!

Platform Issues

States Rights

The 10th Amendment of the Constitution clearly states that "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." I will support legislation that strengthens the rights of the state as intended by the Constitution and the 10th Amendment.

Education

The education of our children is the foundation upon which our future will be built and as such, this has to be a top priority. I will work with educators to get them the resources they need and support legislation that will empower parents and families.

Taxes

Lower taxes are essential to attracting new business, encouraging start-up business and keeping more of your money in your bank account and if done right, the state will actually have even more tax revenue to work with. I will support legislation that would lower or even eliminate the state income tax.

Budget

We must live within our means, no business or household can continue for very long if they are spending more than they bring in and the answer is not to increase taxes, the answer is very simple, spend wisely. I believe that elected officials should be good stewards of what they are entrusted to oversee. I support a balanced budget, less spending and more budget input from the individual districts. In addition, there must be an accountability process, transparent to the tax payers, of how tax dollars were spent as compared to the stated budget.
