Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, will be the keynote speaker Friday at the 2016 CAIR-OK Tulsa Celebration Gala.

Adam Soltani, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Oklahoma, said it will be the first time in many years that CAIR has held a major event in Tulsa.

He said speakers will address issues important to the Muslim American community.

Sarsour is a well-known Brooklyn-born Muslim advocate of racial justice and civil rights, a community organizer, and co-founder of Muslims for Ferguson.

Also speaking at the event will be Jeremy McLellan, a stand-up Christian comedian who does political and social commentary; Mana Tahaie, director of Mission Impact, YWCA Tulsa; and Imam John Ederer, Islamic Society of Tulsa.

The Rev. Chris Moore, Fellowship Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will be honored for his support of the Muslim community and for his interfaith leadership.
The gala will be 7-9 p.m. at Doubletree Hotel at Warren Place, 6110 S. Yale Ave. Tickets ($40) are available by contacting Soltani at asoltani@cair.com, or calling 405-248-5853. Student and child discounts are available.
