(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 5/23/25) – The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) today denounced a hate-filled, threatening letter sent to a local family after they displayed the words “Free Palestine” on their property and encouraged community members to report any similar incidents.
A family in Broken Arrow displayed the words “FREE PALESTINE” on their garage door, beginning around March 2025, to show their solidarity with the families targeted by Israel’s genocide. On or around May 11, they received a letter that displayed graphic images of a dead infant. The family, who has a young child, asked to remain anonymous out of concern for their safety. The letter was only recently reported to CAIR-OK.
The envelope, addressed to “Gaza Strip – Resident,” included a typed letter along with the graphic images. The letter includes derogatory references to Islam and a threat to report the family to DHS.
The family is quoted as saying: “Although this cowardly act was intended to scare us, we will continue to stand for justice and what is right. We are strong and proud of our religion, and we will not be intimidated.”
“We encourage any community members who experience similar acts of harassment to report it to us immediately,” said CAIR-OK Executive Director Veronica Laizure. “People of all faiths should feel safe from harassment and threats at their homes.”
Earlier this year, CAIR’s national office released its 2025 Civil Rights Report “Unconstitutional Crackdowns,” which reveals that Islamophobia continues to be at an all-time high across the country. CAIR said viewpoint discrimination against those speaking out against genocide and apartheid was a key factor in many cases.
CAIR-OK urges any community members who receive similar hateful communications to report to CAIR Oklahoma via the online reporting form at cairoklahoma.com/report or via the office phone line at 405-415-6851.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
