[NOTE: Jummah is the weekly congregational prayer for Muslims, offered on Friday afternoons. Although it is commonly held in a mosque, it can be held in any public location. The prayer consists of a “khutbah,” or sermon, recitation of the Holy Quran, and communal prayers. The event is free and open to the public; attendees of any religious background are invited to attend.]

“Communal prayer is an important part of the Islamic faith,” says CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director Lani Habrock. “Sharing this beautiful observance with members of other faiths is an extraordinary opportunity to increase understanding and to build relationships among people who may not meet in day-to-day circumstances. Holding Jumaah at the capitol is meaningful because it reminds us that this is the people’s place of representation regardless of race, background or religion.”

Featured speakers for the event include Rabbi Vered Harris, spiritual leader of Temple B’Nai Israel; Rev. Shannon Fleck, executive director of the Oklahoma Conference of Churches; Sarah Adams-Cornell, co-founder of Matriarch OK; and Rev. T. Sheri Amore Dickerson, co-pastor of The Table Ministries.
