“The Day of Prayer for Our Legislators is intended to serve two purposes: to reconnect the Muslim community and our allies to the work of the legislature, and to respond to the marginalization of minority faiths and communities by some elected officials,” said CAIR-OK Executive Director Adam Soltani. “We welcome our fellow Oklahomans of all faith backgrounds to join us on this day as we pray for peace and for a better state and country.”

Featured speakers for the event include Rev. Lori Walke of the Mayflower Congregational UCC; Rabbi Vered Harris of Temple B’nai Israel; and Rev. Shannon Fleck of the Oklahoma Conference of Churches.

Jummah is the weekly congregational prayer for Muslims, offered on Friday afternoons. Although it is commonly held in a mosque, it can be held in any public location. The prayer consists of a “khutbah,” or sermon, recitation of the Holy Quran, and communal prayers. The event is free and open to the public.

CAIR-Oklahoma is a chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
