(TULSA, OK 10/4/2017) – The Oklahoma Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) will host their 2017 Tulsa Celebration Gala on Friday, Oct. 6, to commemorate 11 years of service to Oklahoma and honor Aware Tulsa as a leader in social justice advocacy.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of the Tulsa Muslim community with so many of our friends and neighbors. The evening’s focus on interfaith partnership, social justice, and community strength will hopefully inspire the Tulsa Muslim community to push forward without fear in these difficult times.” said Anna Facci, CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director.

Featured at the banquet will be the Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister of All Souls Unitarian Church; Shiekh Nuredin Giayash, Director of Peace Academy Institute; and Imam Imad Enchassi, Senior Imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City.

The keynote speaker for the evening will be Usama Canon, one of the most dynamic Muslim speakers in the West who is founded on a deep understanding and scholarship of Islam through traditional study of the Holy Qur’an and the Life of the Prophet Muhammad. Usama is the Founding Director of Ta’leef Collective, a community based non-profit focused on assisting converts to Islam and creating healthy social and sacred spaces. He is also a spiritual advisor to the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), visiting Chicago monthly in this capacity.
