(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 7/17/2014) – On Saturday, July 19, the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) will join Mercy Youth Club and IST Youth at the 4th annual Ramadan Day of Service.

On that day, more than 100 Sooner State Muslims will spend the afternoon (1-4 p.m.) at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma sorting and packing food, and helping ensure Oklahomans become more food-secure.

CAIR-OK said the day of service will take place at the half-way point of the month of Ramadan and be during the daylight hours when Oklahoma Muslims are fasting from food and drink.

The Oklahoma Muslim community is an active, civically engaged community and proactively promotes an enhanced quality of life for all Sooner State residents. The ‘Oklahoma Muslims Care’ campaign highlights the commitment to service towards the betterment of all in the state; specifically, the campaign is a program designed to facilitate community service opportunities for Sooner State Muslims to participate in that will show their pride in their state through giving back to those in need.

“Ramadan is not only a month in which we abstain from food, drink, and other sensual desires,” said Adam Soltani, executive director CAIR-OK, “it is also a month in which the teachings of our faith encourages us to do our part to help those in need.”

The month of Ramadan will come to an end with the “Eid ul-Fitr” celebration that will take place on July 28, 2014.

CAIR Oklahoma is a chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
