Survey Issues

1. What do you feel should be the government’s role in public health and welfare?

Government should protect the health welfare of its citizens to serve the greater good.

2. What are your views on individuals being able to safely and securely access sensitive medical procedures in privacy and without state control?

Individuals should be able to make decisions about their healthcare with their healthcare provider without the interference of the State.

3. What changes would you make to ensure every Oklahoman has the chance to participate meaningfully in the electoral process?

Oklahoma needs to remove the notary procedure for absentee ballots and fund vote by mail. Oklahoma also needs to have a unified primary.

4. Currently, only one political party in Oklahoma allows Independent voters to participate in primary elections. What will you do to ensure that all registered voters are able to fully express their political preferences?

I will support a ballot initiative for open primaries.

5. Research from Pew Research Center indicates that “the role of money in politics” is consistently one of the top concerns of American voters across the ideological spectrum. What will you do to address this growing issue?

I support transparency in donor funding and expenses and a strong ethics commission to regulate raising and spending.

6. Many Oklahomans experience discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and other factors; how would you address these problems as an elected leader?

I will continue to work to reform discriminatory policies and ensure new policy-making includes many perspectives and is inclusive as implemented.

7. How will you ensure that First Amendment rights to freedom of religion, speech, protest, and press are protected from infringement?

The First Amendment is fundamental to our democracy and must be protected. As a policy maker I would hold this principle at the center of my work and evaluate my support for state laws against whether they limit the fundamental right to free speech as balanced against other fundamental rights.

 8. What issues do you see in our criminal legal system that could be reformed to be more equitable and efficient?

Distribute funding proportionally to both the public defenders and the district attorneys, reform bail laws, strengthen pretrial procedures and reduce fines and fees. Meaningfully invest in public education to create excitement among students about their future and give them the skills the need to succeed. Continue to push for the Oklahoma criminal code to bring our sentences in line with national averages versus the longer sentences that exist currently.

9. What measures would you take to address food insecurity in Oklahoma?

Increase the sales tax relief credit and the state portion of the earned income tax credit.

10. How would you protect people renting in Oklahoma from predatory landlords and expand affordable housing options in our state?

Incentivize the workforce and mix used housing with tax credits. Continue to push for more notice on eviction timelines.
