Paula Sophia

Biography

Paula Sophia is a lifelong servant of the people of Oklahoma. She defended our country in Operations Desert Shield/Storm while serving in the US Army. She protected Oklahoma City families serving as a police officer with the Oklahoma City Police Department, where she engaged in and advocated for community policing. Since retiring, she has advocated for police reform and advised officials about enhancing the Oklahoma City Police Department’s community policing programs while serving as a member of the Community Policing Working Group. 

Since 2017, she has been a licensed social worker, using her talents as a therapist, caseworker, and community advocate. She ran for HD-88 in 2014, losing by only 22 votes, proving that a trans person can be a viable candidate, even in Oklahoma. She helped organize the first Women’s March in Oklahoma in 2017. Paula and her wife have also been advocates for marriage equality after Oklahoma City challenged their 2006 marriage. 

She has dedicatedly supported women’s rights, reproductive rights, and body autonomy. She has two grown children and recently became a grandparent.
