Biography

One of Cherokee County’s most tenured Superintendents is running for State Superintendent.
Values You Believe In is what Dr John Cox stands for.

He is a lifelong educator with 35 years experience working in Oklahoma public schools including 27 years as school Superintendent at Peggs school district. Dr Cox has served as the adjunct professor of education at Northeastern State University, and currently teaches at Mid American Christian University teaching public school finance to aspiring principals and superintendents.

Dr. Cox will be a state superintendent that will support our parents, fight for the needs of our public schools and earn your respect. For someone who truly cares for the future of our Oklahoma children, look no further.

Education | Dr. Cox has an earned Doctorate (ED.D) in Educational Administration and an Educational Specialist (ED.S) from Oklahoma State University, and Masters Degree in Counseling and Bachelors Degree in Mathematics Education from Northeastern State University.

He serves as President of the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (95 schools), Chair of the Oklahoma Schools Assurance Group (500 schools) and Treasurer of the Oklahoma Schools Insurance Group (460 schools). Dr. Cox also served as President of the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators (OASA/CCOSA).

He is a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association and the NSU Alumni Association and serves as President of the NSU Alumni Association board.

Dr. Cox also participated on the NSU College of Education Advisory Board and was a Co-Chair on the Vision Committee sponsored by the Oklahoma State School Board Association (OSSBA) and the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA).

Dr. Cox served on the ACE Steering Committee as the State Superintendent’s appointee and has participated on the State Superintendent’s Advisory Group.
