Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
On the weekend of June 28 – 30, 2013, CAIR Oklahoma is proud to host its 5th Annual Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium (MYLS) at the University of Central Oklahoma. In the past 5 years, the MYLS program has aided in the development of over 250 young Muslim leaders in the state of Oklahoma. Many of the MYLS alumni have gone on to be distinguished activists in their respective communities with accomplishments such as volunteering their time as educators at Islamic Center youth programs, coordinating regular visits to volunteer at local food pantries, and establishing new programs and initiatives such as the Islamic Society of Tulsa’s Running Club recently founded by MYLS alumnus Abdurrahman Kabani.
This year’s MYLS program will center around the theme A Lasting Impression, Building Our Legacy, and will feature a networking dinner in which the attendees will be able to meet community leaders and professionals; workshops that will build on understanding how to be an active, balanced, and committed Oklahoma Muslim; and a mock debate to take place at the Oklahoma House of Representative chambers in the state’s capitol building.
The core mission of MYLS is to provide Oklahoma Muslim youth with a proactive agenda for positive activism; empower them to lead their communities from the margins to the mainstream; and foster a healthy Oklahoma Muslim identity that fits comfortably within a pluralistic American society. The MYLS program is open to Oklahoma residents between the ages of 18 – 25 years of age.
Be a part of the 2013 MYLS program and register online by clicking here. Registration deadline is June 9th, 2013.
Sincerely,
Adam M. Soltani
