The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) says they are disappointed by a Oklahoma lawmakers call to remove American mosques.

State Rep. John Bennett’s post to Facebook read:

“If we’re removing confederate monuments after the civil war, I think we should also be removing mosques after 9/11”

The post has since been removed. CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director Anna Facci said her group has repeatedly attempted to contact Bennett’s office to have an “open and honest” conversation about the contributions and benefits Muslims bring to Oklahoma but have been shut down.

“We are deeply disappointed once again to see a bigoted, anti-Muslim post from Rep. Bennett, who has wasted taxpayer money and time on blatant attacks on the Oklahoma Muslim community since 2013,” Facci said.

This is not Bennett’s first brush with controversy. In March his office distributed questionnaires to attendees of Muslim Day at the Capitol that asked questions such as “Do you beat your wife?”
