Assalamu Alaikum & Greeting of Peace,
This election cycle has corresponded to one of the highest increases in Islamophobia we have seen since 9/11. We have been assaulted, our businesses and mosques have been vandalized, and anti-Islam rallies have taken place across the state.
This November, it is all on the line. Muslims in Oklahoma and across the country are taking a stand against hatred and bigotry in all its forms – and that starts at the ballot box.
CAIR Oklahoma (CAIR-OK) is excited to be a part of MuslimsVOTE, an initiative for Muslims across America to get more active and engaged within our communities by increasing voter turnout among American Muslims.
The MuslimsVOTE initiative has three goals for our community: educating Oklahoma Muslims about the major issues facing our state and our nation; engaging with our elected officials; and empowering you to make significant and lasting change in your community.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Visit www.Muslims.Vote/OK to register to vote, check your registration status, or updated your voter registration.
2. Use the hashtag #CAIR2Vote and share your stories about why you vote and what it means to you.
3. Volunteer to help CAIR-OK register voters, conduct a voter survey, or hold a legislative session in your community by clicking here.
CAIR-OK has actively worked to engage and educate the Oklahoma Muslim community in local, state, and federal politics since the passage of an anti-Shariah state question in 2010 that sought to demonize and marginalize the Muslim community. Although State Question 755 was later ruled unconstitutional, we now have first hand knowledge of the best methods to defeat anti-Muslim legislation especially at the local level.
As we approach November, we are all trying to find ways to have our voices heard in a time a significant fear and uncertainty. The only question that remains is: what will you do?
Sincerely,
Anna Facci
CAIR-OK Government Affairs Coordinator
