Interfaith communities say they will support the right of civic participation by Muslim attendees
(Oklahoma City, OK, 2/26/15) – The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) said today that registrations for its first annual “Oklahoma Muslim Day at the Capitol” on Friday have exceeded capacity despite planned anti-Muslim protests being organized on social media.
CAIR-OK says it appreciates the offer of stepped up protection by local law enforcement authorities for Muslims taking part in Friday’s event at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City.
The Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Conference of Churches are coordinating interfaith communities to escort Muslim attendees into the Capitol to ensure they can attend safely. Interfaith partners will be on site throughout the day in solidarity with the Oklahoma Muslim community.
