“This year’s Muslim Day at the Capitol is focused on local advocacy for global justice. As we have all witnessed a genocide being carried out in Gaza for almost 8 months, it is more important than ever to learn to use our voices at all levels of government. Justice begins with constituents advocating for what they believe in, and this commitment has never been more critical,” said CAIR Oklahoma Advocacy Coordinator Nicole Baumann.
“It is crucial to stay engaged with all political levels, especially local, as the state continues to push measures that are harmful to Oklahomans and people across the globe. This day is about taking up the space our community deserves and feeling empowered to speak for justice.”
The Annual Muslim Day at the Capitol allows attendees to learn more about state government and how to interact with elected leaders and hold them accountable. The day includes advocacy training sessions and opportunities to meet with state legislators. Panels composed of previous and current state legislators, advocates, and civil rights organizations will cover various topics, ranging from “Local Advocacy for Global Issues” to “Levels of Government.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
