(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 11/28/2017) – The Oklahoma Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) today announced the release of its latest Guide to Islamic Religious Practices for Healthcare Providers.

CAIR-OK’s new guide is being released in response to the rise in Islamophobia nationwide in the past year.

The Healthcare Provider’s Guide contains information about common Muslim religious practices and ways that they might impact health care decisions for Muslims and their families. Note: It is intended only as a guide, and individual observances may vary.

“These guides are an invaluable resource for people to understand the needs of their Muslim students, families, and employees,” said Civil Rights Director Veronica Laizure, referring to the previously released guides for educators and employers. “This latest resource, intended for anyone working within a health care setting, will help ensure that providers know some of the needs that may arise with Muslim patients and their families, and can treat them with care and consideration.”

“The key to a healthy patient-provider relationship in any religious context is open communication and respect,” said Laizure.

CAIR-OK’s previously-released guides for educators and employers are available on its website and in print by request.
