(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 08/25/2016) – The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) today announced that a fundraising campaign for the family of Khalid Jabara, a Tulsa man allegedly murdered in a hate crime, met its initial goal of $25,000 through 467 individual donations from across the country.
The ‘Justice for Khalid’ campaign is just one of the ways that the Oklahoma Muslim community and interfaith partners are helping the Jabara family during thier time of difficulty. CAIR-OK has been joined by various interfaith and social justice organizations in promoting the campaign using #Justice4Khalid.

Earlier this week, CAIR-OK joined more than 50 organizations in a letter to the city of Tulsa demanding a fair investigation into the murder of Khalid Jabara. His alleged killer was charged with first degree murder, malicious intimidation and harassment (hate crime), threatening an act of violence, and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony.

“We stand by victims of racial or religious attacks and hope that Khalid’s family will get justice for their loss,” said CAIR-OK Civil Rights Director Veronica Laizure. “We also hope that this tragic incident will galvanize the Oklahoma community into reforms that will protect victims of violent crimes and prevent something like this from ever occurring again.”
On Sunday Laizure joined friends and family of Khalid Jabara in an Interfaith prayer vigil hosted by the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice.
