“We’ve long been proud of our interfaith community’s efforts to advocate for our neighbors in need, and this event is no exception,” said CAIR-OK Civil Rights Director Veronica Laizure. “We hope that through our advocacy, our elected leaders will further understand that the Afghan Adjustment Act is the right move for our community.”
The Afghan Adjustment Act, filed in Congress as S. 4787, is a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation that would provide a pathway to permanent status for the tens of thousands of Afghans who were evacuated to the U.S. following the fall of Kabul in August 2021. It would allow eligible Afghans, who have been subject to rigorous vetting and screening procedures, to apply for green card status after a two-year presence in the U.S.
