(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 3/1/2018) – On Monday, March 5, the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) will host its 4th Annual “Oklahoma Muslim Day at the Capitol.”

Muslims from across the state will take part in a day of education, engagement and advocacy at a time when their faith and community are being targeted by public figures at the state and national levels who are promoting unconstitutional and discriminatory legislation and policies.

Elected officials, faith leaders and community partners from across the state have been confirmed to be a part of this event, including Rep. George E. Young, Rep. Cyndi Munson, and Sen. Anastasia Pittman.
The morning will consist of advocacy training by former gubernatorial candidate and current Executive Director for the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy Joe Dorman; Political Consultant and Co-Director of Oklahoma’s New Leader’s Council Ashten Hughes; and CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director Lani R. Habrock. Participants will hear from keynote speakers Bailey Perkins, Shane Jett, Sen. Anastasia Pittman, and Rep. George E. Young (11 am).
The afternoon portion of the Muslim Day at the Capitol will begin with Islamic prayers at 1:30 pm on the 2nd Floor Rotunda followed by a citation presentation from Rep. Cyndi Munson and visits to the offices of legislators.
“It’s important for all people to feel welcome in their places of governance,” said CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director Lani R. Habrock. “Our goal this year is to help our members feel comfortable speaking with their elected officials and advocating for the good of their communities.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
