Biography

Jason Dunnington was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2014. He is a professor of sociology at Oklahoma City University and a licensed real estate agent. Dunnington earned his master’s degree in theology from Nazarene Theological Seminary and a PhD in sociology from the University of Oklahoma.

He has served as the ranking Democrat on multiple committees and is co-chair of the Oklahoma Sportsmen’s Caucus. In 2016, he was honored by The Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women with their prestigious Guardian Award for his work on equal pay for women, as well as paid family leave and earned paid sick leave for all Oklahoma workers.

Additionally, in 2019, he was recognized as the Legislator of the Year by the Oklahoma Public Employees Association for his work on increasing state employees wages. One of Dunnington’s most significant bills passed into law came in 2019. House Bill 1269, a bill making non-violent drug offenses retroactive, allowed for the largest commutation of incarcerated persons in United States history, providing a second chance for hundreds of Oklahoma citizens and saving the state millions of dollars. Dunnington is running for re-election in House District 88 in 2020.
