Active and civically engaged Muslims from across the state will be gathering to attend this distinguished Ramadan Iftar event. \nClick Here to Register: https://conta.cc/2XDlx3V \nOur keynote speaker will be Congresswoman Kendra Horn\, from Oklahoma’s 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. We are also honored to welcome our featured speakers Oklahoma City May David Holt\, Oklahoma City Councilman James Cooper\, and Oklahoma Senator George Young. \nKeynote Speaker: Congresswoman Kendra Horn \nCongresswoman Kendra S. Horn represents Oklahoma’s 5th District. That includes Oklahoma City\, Edmond and Shawnee. Part of Oklahoma County falls within the district’s boundaries\, as well as all of Pottawatomie and Seminole counties. \nThe Congresswoman was born just south of the district\, in Chickasha. She is a fifth-generation Oklahoman and fourth-generation Girl Scout. She attended Oklahoma schools all the way through college when she attended the University of Tulsa. She studied law at SMU’s Deadman School of Law in Dallas. \nShe practiced as an attorney until she accepted a role as the press secretary to United States Congressman Brad Carson (OK-02). After her time on the Hill\, Congresswoman Horn worked in the space and aeronautics industry. She managed government affairs for the nonprofit Space Foundation before taking over its communications and media relations division. That organization advocates for the global space community\, advancing civic\, commercial and national security space issues. She returned to Oklahoma and founded Women Lead Oklahoma\, a nonpartisan nonprofit that encourages women to participate in civic life. Most recently\, she was the executive director of Sally’s List\, a nonpartisan nonprofit that trains and supports women who run for political office at the state and local level. \nWelcoming Remarks: Mayor David Holt \nMayor David Holt was elected Feb. 13\, 2018\, with 78.5 percent of the vote. It was the largest vote percentage achieved by a non-incumbent candidate for Mayor since 1947\, and it made Holt the youngest Mayor of Oklahoma City since 1923\, the first Native American mayor of Oklahoma City\, and at the time of his election\, the youngest mayor of a U.S. city with more than 500\,000 residents. Mayor Holt took office April 10\, 2018\, as Oklahoma City’s 36th Mayor. \nMayor Holt believes that even though Oklahoma City has come so far\, so fast\, that our work is not finished yet. Mayor Holt is focused on continuing Oklahoma City’s momentum and working to ensure that it reaches every part of our City. His “one OKC” message illustrates his belief that Oklahoma City must maintain its unity to continue its progress. \nMayor Holt was born and raised in Oklahoma City. The son of a teacher and a social worker\, Mayor Holt has had family in Oklahoma City for the better part of a century. He graduated from Putnam City Public Schools before receiving his B.A. from George Washington University and his law degree from Oklahoma City University. \nFeatured Speaker: Councilman James Cooper \nJames Cooper took the oath of office in April 2019 to begin his first term on the Oklahoma City Council. He formerly served as an Oklahoma City Public Schools teacher\, and is a published writer who lives in OKC’s historic Paseo neighborhood. An AVID middle school college preparation teacher\, Councilman Cooper also works as an adjunct Film Studies professor at Oklahoma City University\, where he serves on OCU’s Arts and Sciences Advisory Board. \nCouncilman Cooper also serves as a trustee on the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority (COTPA) Board of Trustees. \nCouncilman Cooper was born in Midwest City where his mother\, a retired registered nurse\, still lives. \nHe received a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies with a minor in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. He began his teaching career at OSU as a graduate assistant\, where the university’s English Department recognized him for Teaching Excellence in Composition. He holds an MA in English at Oklahoma State University and graduated at OCU with his Creative Writing MFA. \nFeatured Speaker: Senator George Young \nGeorge E. Young\, Sr. is the former Senior Pastor at Holy Temple Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and is also a former Commissioner for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. A Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) with the Association of Professional Chaplains\, a Certified Case Manager. He currently is an adjunct professor at Mid-America Christian University and works with the Ok. County Drug and DUI Court. \nDr. Young is a former trustee for Phillips Theological Seminary\, where he also serves as an Adjunct Professor. He has also received community service awards from: Urban League of Greater OKC\, Oklahoma Health Foundation\, Midwest City Martin Luther King Breakfast\, Oklahoma Conference of Churches and the Interfaith Alliance in addition to being recognized as “Distinguished Alumnus” by Phillips Theological Seminary. He and his wife\, the late Reverend Dr. Thelma Chambers-Young\, have two children and three wonderful grandsons.

Young\, Sr.\n\nReverend Doctor George E. Young\, Sr. was born in Memphis\, Tenn. He retired from 30 years of Pastoral service in 2013. Dr. Young was elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representative in 2015. Dr. Young is the author of “Christology: A Look At Practical Christianity.” He was selected to attend the Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills in Little Rock\, sponsored by the Southern Legislative Conference. He was invited and attended the Medicaid Leadership Policy Academy in Washington\, DC and the follow up Advanced Academy\, sponsored by the Council of State Governments. He is a Certified Mediation Specialist in Family and Divorce issues. He received his undergraduate degree from Lambuth University in Jackson\, Tennessee. He continued his education receiving a Masters of Arts in Ministry from Oklahoma Christian University\, graduating Magna Cum Laude\, a Master of Divinity Degree from Phillips Theological Seminary\, Tulsa\, Oklahoma\, graduating Cum Laude\, and a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma Christian University in December of 2006 and completed his Doctorate of Ministry from Phillips Theological Seminary in 2010. He is the CEO of Young Management Consulting\, a mediation and nonprofit management and leadership development firm.\nRepresentative Jason Lowe\n\n\nOn Friday\, June 19th from the steps of the Oklahoma Capitol\, Jason Lowe announced his run as a candidate for the Oklahoma State House of Representatives in District 97. Facing a crowd of several supporters\, the community leader and philanthropist promised to fight for legislature that would encourage\, empower and educate the community he loves. “This community is the heartbeat of our culture. It is a community I greatly admire and appreciate. It is with great honor and respect that I approach this opportunity. It has been led by great men. I promise\, if elected\, to represent House District 97 with integrity\, distinction and reverence. I know it’s possible to create better tomorrows and that begins in legislature. My goal is to make a meaningful difference in the community\,” says Jason Lowe. Jason Lowe resides in Spencer and attends Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church. He received his Bachelors of Art in Political Science at Virginia State University and continued his education at Oklahoma City University School of Law. He began his career as a public defender in Oklahoma City.\n\n\nRepresentative Forrest Bennett\n\nForrest Bennett is currently the State Representative in House District 92. He’s an educator\, and an Oklahoman that’s deeply devoted to bettering the state. Forrest began his professional career working with the legislature and knows firsthand the difference one person can make at the Capitol. After working to increase parent involvement and advocating for Oklahoma City Public Schools\, Forrest chose to dedicate his time to the classroom\, teaching American Government at OU. As an Oklahoma state representative\, Forrest works to improve public education\, strengthen neighborhoods\, create jobs\, and honor the senior citizens of Oklahoma.
