Join CAIR Oklahoma on Friday, Feb 27, 2015 as we bring together Muslims from across Oklahoma to directly meet with their representatives and discuss the issues affecting Oklahoma’s Muslim Community. At Muslim Day at the Capitol, participants receive training (no special skills or prior experience is necessary!), support, and encouragement throughout a day of civic engagement filled with meetings with elected officials. This event is educational, empowering and vital to the success of our community.
Featured Speakers
Rep. Emily Virgin
Emily Virgin is a Democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 44. She was first elected to the chamber in 2010. She currently serves as Assistant Minority Floor Leader.
Virgin earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. She is currently studying law at Oklahoma University College of Law.
Rep. Mike Shelton
Mike Shelton is a Democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 97. He was first elected to the chamber in 2004. He serves as the Assistant Minority Floor Leader.
Shelton earned his B.S. in Economics from Langston University. His professional experience includes working as district executive director for the Boy Scouts of America; director of community relations for Langston University; and director of community relations for Oklahoma County.
This unique opportunity provides community members with the ability to learn the intricacies of state and local government, meet your political representatives and develop the skills to be an effective advocate for your community!
