Biography

A life-long resident of Oklahoma, Susan Carle Young was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John and Shirley (Knost) Carle. Her father was an attorney in Claremore for 54 years and had an admirable record of service to Claremore, Rogers County, their church (First United Methodist), and the Democratic Party. Her mother is a retired English teacher and served on the Claremore School Board for ten years.

Susan attended Claremore Public Schools and Holland Hall School in Tulsa, graduating from Claremore High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma and earned her bachelor of science in nursing and later, a master’s degree in social work.

A few years after graduating from OU, she married Tim Young, who had just graduated from the OU School of Medicine. She spent the next decades with Tim in Tulsa raising their sons David and Joshua, attending graduate school, and working as a social worker. After her father’s death in 2011, she and Tim moved back to Rogers County to assist her mother. They live on a 76-acre ranch where they raise pecans and hay.

Susan has dedicated her life to promoting children’s health and mental health awareness, as a social worker and a pediatric nurse. She has served on the boards of many community organizations and is currently an emeritus board member and past president of CASA of Northeast Oklahoma. She has volunteered for the Parent Child Center of Tulsa, Children’s Day Nursery, and the Hispanic Resource Association. She is a long-time member of the Democratic Party and currently serves as the chair of the Rogers County Democratic Party.
