Biography
Karen is executive director of Tulsa’s Crime Stoppers. She is devoted to improving the safety of our community. She’s tough, strong and conservative. Karen previously served as a Tulsa city councilor, where she fought to put more police officers and firefighters on the streets, while standing against wasteful spending. She is a three-time recipient of Tulsa’s Fraternal Order of Police Councilor of the Year award. In addition to fighting for public safety, Karen fought to cut red tape and reduce job-killing regulatory burdens on Tulsa small businesses. Karen worked over 4 years trying to find a way of funding more police officers and firefighters for Tulsa without raising taxes. Tulsa voters voted to approve the Vision Public Safety Tax putting 160 more police officers, 70 more fire fighters and 16 more 911 dispatchers. She believes we all have the right to live and work without unnecessary mandates.
A former public schools advocate, Karen earned recognition five times as support employee of the year. She was also an active volunteer, serving as PTA president of the Tulsa Council of PTA and oversaw PTAs for all of Tulsa Public Schools. Karen believes we should teach the truth about our nation’s history and ban Critical Race Theory from classrooms. She will protect the fairness of women’s sports by preventing biological males who identify as females from competing against women and girls in college and high school sports.
A lifelong Tulsan, Karen is married to Tom. The couple of 31 years have three grown children, Karsten, Peyton and Marshall. Karen and Tom are members of First Presbyterian Church. Karen attended the University of Tulsa. She is also a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma and Leadership Tulsa. Karen Gilbert is the kind of tough we need.
