(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 5/14/2021) — Today the Oklahoma Chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK) condemned that state’s House Resolution 1035 backing Israel oppression of Palestinians.

HR 1035 is a clearly one-sided statement and ignores and overlooks the human rights of the Palestinian people and recent attacks on the third holiest site in Islam.

“What the Palestinian people have and continue to go through is no different than what the indigenous native people of America went through when European colonizers occupied their lands and destroyed every aspect of their life,” said CAIR-OK Executive Director Adam Soltani. “In a place like Oklahoma, where we are home to so many indigenous tribes and also the location that native Americans were sent on the trail of tears, we should be much more compassionate and understanding of human rights of all people.”

“The Oklahoma State Legislature continues to choose meaningless political pandering over taking action that actually helps citizens,” said CAIR-OK Government Affairs Director Lani Habrock. “These resolutions do nothing but alienate Oklahomans with loved ones suffering in the Gaza Strip.”

CAIR Oklahoma is a chapter of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
