Great news from United States Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) Muslim Hill Day at our nation’s capital in Washington, D.C.!
On Monday, April 18th, over 300 delegates from Muslim organizations across the country held 215 meetings with national lawmakers, sharing our concerns about domestic legislation that will have repercussions in the Muslim community and beyond.
Your Oklahoma delegates were Islamic Council of Oklahoma Chair Sheryl Siddiqui, a Tulsa resident and long-time activist for the Muslim community; and myself, Veronica Laizure, the CAIR-OK Civil Rights Director.
On Monday, Sheryl and I met with representatives from the offices of Congressman Jim Bridenstein, OK-1; Congressman Steve Russell, OK-5; and Senator James Lankford. We discussed the impacts of Islamophobia in our communities and urged our lawmakers to support legislation that will benefit Oklahoma families and children. We extend our sincere thanks for the gracious staffers who met with us and allowed us to share our thoughts and concerns.
We also met with Muslim organizers and leaders from all over the country to share ideas, network, and help each other develop programs and campaigns to benefit our communities.
