Last week, CAIR-Oklahoma asked people to contact their member of Congress and urge them to vote against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA, H.R. 1540), which authorizes the U.S. military to arrest and detain indefinitely without charge or trial, American citizens suspected of terrorism. Unfortunately, Congress voted to pass the NDAA this week despite strong opposition from certain members of Congress and FBI Director Robert Mueller.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) warned that American citizens "can be taken from the United States and sent to a camp at Guantanamo Bay and held indefinitely...what security does this indefinite detention of Americans give us?"

"The NDAA is yet another attempt by our Congress to use the 'War on Terror' as an excuse to trample the rights to due process guaranteed by the United States Constitution," said CAIR-OK Executive Director Muneer Awad. "While recognizing that this Act could be used to target America's Muslim community, we believe the blatant disregard of the principles enshrined in our nation's laws is a threat to all Americans."

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Ask President Barak Obama to veto the NDAA
- Call the President at 202-456-1111
- Email the President (especially if your call goes unanswered) here.
2. Talking Points to mention on the call, and on email:
- Mr. President, I urge you to honor your original pledge to veto the NDAA because it sanctions the indefinite detention of Americans without charge or trial.
- It is unconstitutional for the military to police, or indefinitely hold Americans without allowing them their constitutional rights to a fair and speedy trial, and hearing the charges brought against them.
3. Inform your friends & family, and urge them to take action by forwarding this alert to at least five other people. Tell them you took action and ask them to do the same.
